STAGE TWO GEAR UP! ACTIVITY

CREATE A MOVIE MAKER VIDEO ABOUT PARTICIPATING MISSOURI CITIES

Research the Tour’s 2009 participating cities by visiting the links of these cities:
St. Louis Ste. Genevieve Cape Girardeau Farmington Rolla St. James Jefferson City Sedalia Chillicothe St. Joseph Kansas City

On each city’s page, you will read about the city. On most of them you can access additional external links that will give you more information about the city’s history, attractions, events and festivals, and businesses.

After researching, choose a topic to create a video about one of the cities or make a video comparison about several of the cities. Create a storyboard before you begin, so you have a plan for your video. You may use graphics from websites by right-clicking and saving. Be sure to end the video with citations for the website graphics that you use.

Topic Ideas:

  • A cultural video about the city’s heritage: language, customs/events/festivals based on its founding citizens. Does the city have a specific European influence in its history? Use a video to tell the story.
  • A timeline of the city’s development to modern day features. Incorporate graphics and information that brings the city’s history to life.
  • What is the city motto? Make a video that reflects that motto.
  • Find a topic/subject area that all the cities share in common.
  • Make a comparison and contrast between 2 or more cities.
  • Create a tourism guide for a city. What city features will attract visitors? “Sell” the city with a video brochure.
  • Create a video about Farmington and interview people and take photos, too.

Use the rubrics below as a guideline, so you will know what your teacher expects. There is a rubric for the storyboard and a rubric for the video.
