            Diffusion of Educational Innovations

Change happens, but not always the way you want it to happen. This course will help you take charge of change by understanding change dynamics and using proven methods to influence change in any organization. Learn why some innovations are adopted and others are abandoned; why some people are quick to change and others need more time. Most importantly - learn how to make the changes you want to happen.

Educational technology acceptance can be influenced by understanding others' roles in how innovations are adopted. I entered this course with very little understanding of the processes of innovations by organizations but was interested in learning how I could possibly affect their adoption.

The Diffusion of Educational Innovations course gave me the knowledge I need to take command of the acceptance of technology within the organizations that are important to me. I can not only use this knowledge in education, but also in any organization that adopts technology. Development of the CBAM project deepened my understanding to the perspectives of all involved within an organization and gave me application for my workplace. I feel that what I learned about diffusions provides me with guidance for gaining acceptance of technology use at school. There was a greater appreciation by me of the inner workings of relationships within groups, and I learned the best way to approach the members of the group if a technology innovation would be helpful to the group. Applying that understanding is the best way to "get what I want" but I am also able to reflect on the influences that cause people to embrace or push away technology innovations.

I was able to compare organizations and analyze how innovative they were based on their structure of leadership. Not only did I gain insight into leadership roles, I learned how everyone's role was important in the perception and speed of technology acceptance.
