                                               Action Research

Study of concepts associated with action research; and the processes and procedures for conducting action research. Culminating project is the development of an action research project. Prerequisite: 12 credit hours completed prior to enrolling.

There are four steps to action research: identify an area of focus, collect data, analyze and interpret data, and develop an action plan. Teachers are always in the role of action research, whether it's the resolve to modify student behavior for optimal learning in the classroom, to creating a unit or lesson to strengthen curriculum weaknesses. We do not always document our action and study that serves the purpose, but we continuously adapt in our goals of instruction.

The area of focus I identified for my action research project was an observable behavior of file management. Students, beginning at an early age, need to develop an aptitude and consistent habit of managing their digital resources in the most efficient way. Research for related literature and studies followed as data collection, and several matrices were developed to reflect literature, data, and analysis. Discovery of underlying causes helped to further identify extensibles that supported my action research analysis.

Designing a digital survey for data collection gave me the opportunity to practice creating focused questions for research purposes. I learned that writing surveys also helped me to master techniques of questioning to receive optimal feedback for the data I needed to receive from my subjects.

Although this project was highly work intensive, the primary benefit I received from the involved activities is more confidence about my abilities to pursue resolution of problems I observe in the classroom.
