Review Language Rules

Always capitalize the beginning of a sentence. Always end each sentence with punctuation.

Always capitalize proper nouns: names, places, and events.

Place 'a' or 'an' as needed before nouns. 'A' precedes words with consonant sounds and 'an' precedes words of vowel sounds.

Use commas in series. (A comma between the next-to-last and the last item in a sentence series is not mandatory.) Examples: We ate carrots, peas, and celery at lunch. 1,000,000

Numbers greater than should be written as numerals (100) in a sentence. If a numeral is used in a sentence, copy it as it is.

Use a comma before FANBOYS: for, and, nor, but, or, yet, and so

Put quotes inside quotation marks and offset them with commas or appropriate punctuation. Examples: "Come over here," said Mark. "Watch out!" Martha yelled.

Use an apostrophe for contractions of verbs. Examples: can't, didn't, it’s, there’s

Eliminate unnecessary words.

Change incorrect homophones. Example: Sheila wants too pencils. (incorrect); Sheila wants two pencils (correct)

Make the verb agree with the subject. Make verb changes where necessary.
